UPDATES:
September Meeting:
At our September meeting, we heard from Joan and Dave as they reported on their participation at the 2022 HLAA Convention in Tampa, Florida. We learned about the different educational workshops that were offered, along with fun stories from their time in Tampa, including boat rides, delicious food, and a Gilligan's Island themed party. We discussed what HLAA is doing currently on behalf of people with hearing loss. We also indulged in Pizza and beverages, and one lucky raffle winner brought home the book “Hear & Beyond” by Hannah Eberts.

ONLINE COLLEGE GUIDE FOR DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING STUDENTS -
According to the National Deaf Center of Postsecondary Outcomes, deaf and hard-of-hearing students are more likely than other students to attend college courses online (17.1% of deaf and hard-of-hearing students take their entire college program online, while only 10.7% of students with no hearing issues do the same). This preference for online courses is likely because it allows students to set up their own accommodations like online captioning and ASL interpreters rather than relying entirely on their school’s resources.
